I'm Not Exactly "Typical"

I know I'm not your typical 20-something-year-old. I see quite a few of my classmates from high school getting married, already married, and/or having babies. I can't talk to them about what their life is like because I possibly couldn't understand as they couldn't understand mine. I've noted on the social webpages the drifting between the class, the widening gap as we all become the people we are. I couldn't talk baby and don't ask me to hold one. They cry, dribble, smell, and are squishy and fragile at the same time. When they're older I'm more comfortable around them, when I can play games with them, pull out my craft box and coloring books and tell them to go nuts, or pull a animated movie from my dvd shelf to share the magic of Disney, Miyazaki, or 80's and 90's television shows. Having kids couldn't be any farther from my mind at this point in my life, even getting married is a "maybe when I'm 30" thought. There's too much I want to do, too much I want to accomplish before I "settle down" (if that is even possible).

I'm happy to spend hours in my favorite cafe and bookstores reading, studying, or working on one of future literary accomplishments. I thrive in the college setting where I spend all day with those that are like minded (we picked the same class, after all) and discuss the readings even after class had ended. I'm doing what makes me happy and how could I possibly wish this to end. I don't see myself ever letting myself stop furthering my education, I have already decided what I want to get my master's in and I still have a little bit before I get my associates.

The only thing I don't enjoy about my life is my current job. I work as a cashier in a craft store, and while the craft store setting is something I find myself enjoying, cashiering is not. I like having little breaks between customers, I don't like being told to stand in one place for 4-8 (sometimes even 10 hours), and I especially dislike the holidays in retail. This however, is something I am working on changing. I submitted an application to the library in my college today and have started fantasizing spending hours shelving books and finding books to my growing "to read" list on my goodreads account.

Yes, I am an oddity. I'm the enigma of my family. The nerd they don't quite understand and yet still embrace. I think my mom has even given up waiting for my to bring a boyfriend home or announce I have a date because when that does happen (rarely) it doesn't seem to last long. She's convinced I'm a relationship saboteur  and so maybe I am. Maybe I am not ready for a long lasting relationship, maybe what I need are more friendships. Friends to share my hopes and dreams and accomplishments with. Yes, that's what I need right now.

Finding an Alpha

So a few sessions ago the werewolves were brought together at the Tur and were told, 'this is your pack now, pick an alpha.' This is my first time playing werewolf, and I'm still very new to the World of Darkness world. My experience with role-playing had been text-based where I can sit and mull over a post before I post it. This is much faster paced and I'm having to think on my feet and I am learning that like life what I say and do have consequences. So we have 7 pack members.

Jimmy - M
Logain "Rabbit" - Z
Leila Volkov - CB
Delilah Volkov  "DSL"- Myself
Cole Raynesford - CO
Benjamin Franklyn Mullet "Turtle" - E
Jayden "Jack" - J

Cole was the first one to step up for alpha and Jimmy immediately challenged him. So the challenge was decided on by Cole. Cole, being an Ithaeur, opted for the challenge of offering alpha for a week to anyone who challenges him, by the end of it the pack will decide who is worthy of being the leader. He picked Jimmy to go first. Jimmy had the issue of finding us a place to stay since we were no longer welcome in the territories of the packs who already controlled Midway, Georgia. He asked Big Money if they had a job for us to do in exchange for staying with them. The alpha of Big Money, Dariun pulled Jimmy to the side to discuss what was needed to be done. We did not know what he was agreeing to on our behalf. When he came back he told us all to get into the truck. Delilah asked why multiple times and he continued to repeat, "Get in the truck." Finally when she realized the entire pack was already in the truck she climbed in as well, not liking going into something without any knowledge or without a clear plan. She had been incredibly careful since she came back to Midway from Paris, France 4 months prior to this formation of a pack. Jimmy drove obviously trying to formulate a plan and eventually he told us that Dariun wanted 2 warehouses of lumber from outside of Savannah, Georgia (Pure territory) to "disappear". Jimmy was not clear as to how to make these warehouses disappear and eventually it was decided to burn the warehouses down. The lumber would be gone after that, so it was decided. We drove back to the Tur and bought an entire case of Jack Daniels to use as fuel for the fire. Everyone but Delilah put money towards buying the case, Delilah not having any extra funds being an artist who had not become known in the area yet and thus barely scraping by. Dariun noticed us and pointed out that in the shed he offered for us to stay in there were gloves and the supplies needed to move the lumber to his warehouse, because fingerprints were awfully tricky to get rid of after all. That was an immediate red flag that we could not burn down the warehouse, we had to somehow find a way to move warehouses of lumber from Savannah to Midway.

We drove in the direction of Savannah, where the first warehouse was. It was a railroad supply yard. It was decided to steal shipment forms, have Delilah forge the right signature and have the lumber shipped to Midway. Rabbit, our Irraka, went in for the form. When he came back he had a blank form, had pictures of a completed form and had big news that the lumber were were after was actually cocaine and he had had the best 3 second high of his life. I manged to forge the signature, to the untrained eye it looked perfect, but to Delilah there was something to be desired. Then somebody asked how we were going to get the lumber from the station in Midway to the warehouse on the other side of the town. We grew frustrated in trying to figure out how we were going to get this done. Rabbit started coming up with wild ideas involving sharks from Jersey (they are swimming in the streets still, apparently after the hurricane) feeding them the cocaine then pushing Dariun into the shark tank so he can have his cocaine.

We were called away from our job to the Tur to act as delegates because a group had shown up there asking to speak to someone. We left the supply yard and went back to the Tur to find an odd group waiting for us. One who had a dog spirit hanging around him (I later used my gift of Know Name to learn that the dog was called Patches) spoke First Tongue asking who was in charge. Jimmy immediately demanded to know who exactly was asking taking great offense to this. We spoke and Rabbit did a lot of talking trying to distract the group from the terms that were accidentally slipped, "Pure" being one of them. Jimmy was getting very annoyed at his brother (Rabbit) and when he gave Rabbit a direct order and he ignored it he sucker punched him and a fight broke out between the two of them. That gave me time to speak with the group and I ended up taking two of their number and giving them my number. What we learned was that our kind was teaming up with their "cousins" and changing positive spirits into negative ones. We were alarmed by this and agreed to take care of our own, seeing this as a way to get into Savannah. We parted ways and we went back to figuring out what to do about the warehouses. The second session ended there and Jimmy's week as alpha ended.

The next session began and Cole named Delilah as acting alpha. I was not at all comfortable with this having not read the book cover to cover yet and still unsure about what it meant to be a werewolf. Nevertheless, I was named and I wasn't backing down, I wanted to show the pack what Delilah was capable of. She immediately started planning. As it had been suggested before while Jimmy was in charge, an information spirit may be the way to go in this situation and Delilah agreed. Rabbit continued to pester Delilah about calling the group and finally she relented calling Diogenes' (or D as he said we can call him) number. Rabbit just wanted to talk about tennis, one member of the group (Delta) having promised him lessons. The group was unsure of why we called them but set a place for us to meet them. We opted to go meet them. Delilah was cautious with them having not been able to find any information on them during the week. What she does know is that they are not Spirits, they are not Uratha, and they are not Pure. Before going to meet them she called Blood, Sweat, Tears the pack who controlled the area for permission to meet with the group they were asked to be delegates to. Permission was granted, and it they had been curious as to who was out there that time of night. We had Leila and Cole this time meeting them as they had not been there the last session, so Jimmy suggested they go out to the sides and flank them if they try anything. We spoke and Delilah noticed that one of them was messing with his phone and announced that there were wolves in the woods. They immediately became alarmed and when we denied knowledge of it they left quickly. Jimmy was angry with me that Delilah had not given him the command to stop them, but she saw no reason to. A raven flew down to sit between us and the group, almost as a shield to give them a chance to get away. Rabbit noted that there was fear, but it was not an animal type fear. They left and after a little bit more planning on Delilah's part, Rabbit asked for one of the group's number. I asked him why and he said he just wanted to call them. I gave in, realizing that Rabbit would continue to be a bother until he got his way and the pack could continue on with the task at hand. When I had made the decision to go to the second warehouse and see what we were dealing with, Rabbit came back and declared that he was going to the Tur for a drink and would join us later. We went to the warehouse and Delilah noticed that there was no power to the warehouse, it was all dark. Another discovery was made that there were many prey animal spirits in the area, but they were being blocked into the territory and Cole noticed spirit symbols. Leila and Jack realized that it was a hunting ground. While the session ended at this point we are still doing a lot of planning as to what to do about this.

Rabbit told us that he met with Diogenes. What he gathered from their conversation is that this group knows we are newly formed as a pack, they know that there is no land in midway for us, they also know what we are. They know the Pure and us are different and they know that Midway is not Pure and Savannah is. They want us to move into Savannah with them. Diogenes and his group were okay with us until they realized that there were 6 wolves in the forest (2 were Cole and Leila, but 4 were not, we are assuming that they were members of Blood, Sweat and Tears). It was when we denied knowledge that they panicked and ran. Diogenes continued to relent that relations between our two groups would be very valuable to the both of us, but we still are not sure what they are or what else they want from us. D came straight out and admitted that if it came to a physical fight one on one with any of his group or one of ours they know for a fact they wouldn't stand a chance. He did say that his whole group is alike in the regards of the Pure and us are alike, but each individual was completely different.

There was a promise extracted for Diogenes to get Delta to teach Rabbit tennis. We have decided so far that we all as a pack, even the two who had not been revealed to the group should come. The Raven showed up again at this meeting and Rabbit noticed the same fear and suspected that the Raven had something to do with the text that was received earlier that night, though we are not sure how a Raven would text. I am determined to try Know Name on it the next time we encounter it. Another idea that has been offered is to tell Big Money to F off after we've gotten our stuff out of his shed and to run for it. We know he is strong, he threw Jimmy through several walls before granting a week longer to complete his task. Our plan is to complete the project on the boards we communicate on and have this part wrapped up in time for the next session, which would be a week later.

Well, that is what's happened so far. I'm excited for the next session and I feel I have shown Delilah's talent in planning things through, whether or not that is worthy of being alpha is up for the pack to decide. I know there were things that I should not have allowed Rabbit to do on his own, but we stayed on task while he wasn't there and he did get a lot of information from D. I'm excited to role-play Delilah next time and thus far no member of the pack has tried to pry into Delilah's past in Paris, other than knowing that her previous pack had died. I will reveal her past on this blog as it is revealed to the pack. I'm planning on my next post on World of Darkness to include a description of Delilah and you will also know how her twin sister Leila looks. I wonder what the group will think to see a double of Delilah show up at the tennis game.
